Why It Matters

Things nobody quite got round to telling you.

£786
Wasted on subscriptions every year
The average UK household. Gym memberships, streaming services, apps, insurance that auto-renewed. Most people have never looked at their direct debits properly. Dad did.
46%
Of drivers can't name half their warning lights
Including 1.5 million who can't identify any of them. A red oil pressure light means stop immediately. Not "I'll look at it at the weekend." Dad knew this.
£470
Of food thrown away per household every year
Most of it perfectly edible. Best before is not the same as use by. Two different labels. One matters for safety. One doesn't. Dad knew the difference.

The Story

Dad knew. He just never quite said.

There is a particular kind of knowledge that accumulates quietly over a lifetime. How to bleed a radiator. When to actually go to the doctor. What happens to your savings if you die without a will. Why your energy bill is still high even though the price cap dropped.

Dads tend to know this stuff. Not because they're especially clever, but because they've been around long enough to have got it wrong once, paid for it, and remembered.

"The problem isn't that this knowledge doesn't exist. It's that nobody ever quite gets round to passing it on."

Dad Actually is an attempt to fix that. Practical UK guides on the things that affect everyone — bills, home, cars, health, money, travel, legal basics — sourced properly and presented without fuss.

No lifestyle. No opinions. Just the stuff worth knowing.

UK Everything here is specific to the UK. Prices, laws, services and sources are all British.
Every factual claim is sourced from a primary UK authority — NHS, Citizens Advice, Gov.uk, Ofgem, the DVSA, the Food Standards Agency, mygov.scot. If it can't be verified, it doesn't go in.
The content is built to last. No trend-chasing. The guide on bleeding radiators will be as useful in five years as it is today.
Every guide ends with one practical checklist — the thing you actually save, come back to, and use when you need it.
£0 All of it free. Always. The only ask is that you share it with someone who needs it.
